Karen M. Petersen is Interim Executive Director for Career Development at Augustana College. Karen has lead strategic planning, organization, and staff development efforts to Augustana’s CORE Center (Career Opportunities Research Exploration). She manages this innovative career development center created for the 21st century residential liberal arts college. CORE helps students better prepare for lives of leadership, purpose, and service in today’s challenging economy.
Karen has presented at several conferences for the National Society of Experiential Education and Midwest Association of Colleges and Employers discussing the strategic undertaking of Augustana’s CORE Center. She works regularly with faculty, students groups, and employers promoting Augustana’s innovative professional preparation tracking system known as The Viking Score, and has developed an employee professional development program in Career Development, as a way to spark their passion in career development, develop their skillsets, and improve their engagement in their work at the College.
Karen is ABD in Higher Education Administration from Illinois State University, holds an MBA (finance) from the University of Iowa, and a bachelor of arts in psychology and business administration from Augustana College. She completed a Leadership certificate at Northwestern University and has finished several professional development courses through the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
